Detached Football Project
The project funded by Children in Need and the Big Lottery provides young people from the Kensington and Toxteth areas of Liverpool with support on issues around employability using football as the first step of engagement. The programme provides young people with the opportunity to learn new skills, gain experience and change attitudes towards education, training and employment. The football sessions are open and inclusive for all young people aged 16-24 and include safe structured football coaching and team games. The young people from this group also have the opportunity to undertake the FA Level 1 Football Coaching Award. A number of young people from the group took part in the October 2103 course (see Community)
We are working with Liverpool Youth Offending Team delivering inclusive futsal sessions in Kensington at Jubilee Sports Bank. The sessions involve a warm up, technical coaching and futsal games. Some of the young people have also taken part in the Liverpool County FA Futsal League in Wavertree.
Global Community Cup
TARGET Football hosted a Multi Cultural Football Tournament on Sunday 30th October 2011 at Starrfields Sports Facility in Toxteth. The Global Community Cup, funded by the Police Property Act Fund, brought together 12 teams, representing 12 nations, with players from all over Merseyside. The tournament was a great success with over 120 people from different backgrounds coming together with their friends and family to enjoy a day of football and music. The teams played for their country of origin and were provided with t-shirts in their country’s colours.
